Our Board of Directors had a meeting recently and we decided that, to serve our members better, we will continue to run monthly VPRs, our signature event, as well as striving to provide more informative and educational events. All of our premium tastings, such as Robert White’s Premium Shiraz and Cabernet events, sold out quickly. Our Festive Fizz event and the Holiday Gala at the NAC continue to draw capacity crowds. Not even I could anticipate the uptake on the Aged Bordeaux event announced on Sunday morning and sold out by Sunday night.
This proved to the Board that we are on the right track. These are the type of events that our membership now expect, and let’s face it, many of you are Algonquin Sommelier Program graduates that demand both quality and diversity in our offerings.
If you’ve missed your chance to attend the Aged Bordeaux event, there will be another late in June. We are just finalizing the date. In addition, there will be a tutored tasting of Chateau Gaby, an estate in Canon Fronsac. The tasting will be lead by wine writer and consultant Nico Van Duyvenbode who has an intimate knowledge of the Chateau, its products, the terroir and the annual weather influences on the 12-year vertical we will have the chance to experience. Further to this, I am in the process of assembling more aged wines for upcoming tastings. In short, we plan to offer more similar premium tastings.
Other upcoming events will include summer wine pairings for the outdoor grilling, our Annual Garden Party, the Mechoui and some other events. And don’t forget the Guild’s Annual General Meeting (AGM). We will give our annual update as well as look to our membership for any new ideas that you may have. If you have a desire to get involved, please reach out to me. Registration for the AGM is via Eventbrite. Please sign up soon so we can ensure to have enough wine and cheese at the event. Did I mention that the AGM is free for our members!
Hope to see you there!
