As we move into colder weather, it is wonderful to be able to enjoy a full- bodied red wine. The Guild has arranged for line-up of premium Cabernet Sauvignons for your enjoyment. Wines from iconic producers such as Shafer, Joseph Phelps and Cakebread Cellars are just some of what we will taste. A full dozen wines were selected last year by Guild Director Robert White from the Classic Collection and select Vintages releases. The wines have been cellared for a year to help enhance our enjoyment.
Cabernet Sauvignon is one of the world’s most widely recognized red wine grape varieties. It is grown in nearly every major wine producing country among a diverse spectrum of climates. Cabernet Sauvignon became internationally recognized through its prominence in Bordeaux wines. From France, the grape spread across Europe and to the new world where it found new homes in places like California’s Napa Valley, Australia’s Coonawarra region and Chile’s Maipo Valley. For most of the 20th century, it was the world’s most widely planted premium red wine grape.
We will be tasting premium Cabernet Sauvignons from four different countries, including Canada. The tasting will be anchored by the Shafer Hillside Select, your chance to see if the price to value ratio is in favour of this $259 spectacular wine! If you love full and deep Cabernet Sauvignons, or fully appreciate fine wines, then this is a tasting that should not be missed!
