The Rhone Valley produces some of the greatest wines in the world from the benchmark Syrah of the north, to the iconic Châteauneuf-du-Pape region and the Grenache blends of the Rhone River delta. But can vintners in other countries match these great wines?
Following on from last year’s Bordeaux Blend Face-Off where the French wines were seriously challenged, we will set out with four flights of different styles to find out how the Rhone Valley measures up. We will begin with a flight of Châteauneuf-du-Pape blancs, a wine style that may not be familiar to some. This will be followed by a flight of Rhone Valley blends with a wine from Gigondas representing the Rhone Valley. To ensure a fair challenge, two Châteauneuf-du- Papes will challenge two wines from other countries. We will finish with three stand-out Syrahs.
Guild Director Robert White, has collected wines over the past year from the Classic Collections, Vintages On-line Exclusives and select Vintages releases. Vintners from five different countries will challenge those from the Rhone Valley. These wines have been specially assembled for Guild members and invited guests to help them explore premium Rhone Valley style wines.
We hope to see you there!
