Reported by Robert White
National Capital Sommelier Guild members convened in the Algonquin College Hospitality Amphitheatre for the Annual General Meeting.
The financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2014, were presented by the Treasurer, Rod Story, and were approved by the members.
Bill Ellis provided an overview of the successful events conducted in 2014 and events being planned in his President’s message. The Guild’s fabulous volunteers were thanked: Dawn Harvie for the newsletter; David Isaacs for the website; and Cynthia Mar for memberships.
The Guild began working with Joan Culliton on the Ottawa Wine and Food Festival eight years ago and on the Spring Show three years ago. A generous financial grant was made to the Guild from the Festival. The first two Century Club certificates were awarded to David Skinner and Robert White.
The existing Directors were re- elected by the members. They are:
- Bill Ellis
- Malcolm Rose
- Rod Story
- Robert White
- Andrew Travill
- Alan Atkinson
- Ian Duncan
- Don Cook
- Sean O’Regan
- Marie France Champagne
- Matt Steeves
The meeting then moved on to new business. It was noted that any members wishing to run an event are welcome to do so and a member for the Board will work with them. A number of suggestions were made on how to improve outreach and make the Guild more valuable to the wine community. The Board of Directors will be considering the suggestions received.
After adjournment, the members chatted and renewed acquaintances over wine and cheese.
