A Word from Bill — January 2016

Happy New Year! Here’s hoping that you had a great selection of great wines to share with friends and family. As you are probably aware, the Guild is running one event in January and will be ramping up for a full slate of events starting in February.

The most exciting announcement I’d like to make is that after a year hiatus our Gala has returned as a spring event at National Arts Centre! Guild Director Malcolm Rose and Executive Chef John Morris have been busy designing a fabulous menu paired with exceptional wines for your gastronomic enjoyment. More information is contained later in the newsletter so make sure to hold the date! This is sure to be a great event. The thought that John puts into menu planning and creativity make him a Guild favourite!

Beyond that, board has been busy reviewing member suggestions from the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Based on your input, look for weekend events that pop up quickly this winter at value price points and with limited space allowing you to Taste, Share and Learn. The first three we are planning will help you shake off the winter blahs: a local brewery, a local distillery and another event focusing on Eastern Ontario Winemakers.

Other events that you should be aware of are both the New Zealand and California Wine Shows. Although every year California stops in Ottawa, every second year New Zealand is in town. We have included information on the California Wine Show in this newsletter and as soon as we have information on New Zealand, we will pass it on to you. Historically, the event has been in May.

As a reminder, it’s time to renew your membership. Remember, to attend events, your membership, at only $25 per year, must be current. To join/renew your membership, visit: https://www.eventbrite.com/e 2016-annual-membership-januaryto-march-purchasestickets-18810469621

And last but not least, don’t forget about the “Eat, Drink, Spring” event coming up towards the end of the winter. Again, this event will give Guild members a great chance to spend time talking wine, sharing thoughts and educating consumers in a fun setting. Stay tuned for details.

We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

Cheers,

Bill Ellis, President
