A Word from Bill — March 2016

Although we had a great start to the winter, late storms forced us into the house and in front of the fireplace. What a great time to enjoy some heavier red and fortified wines. It seems that we wine lovers have a good reason to enjoy wines that pair not only with food, but also with the season. This allows us to effectively cope with whatever Mother Nature throws our way. In any event spring is just around the corner!

After a year hiatus we are back at the NAC and by a separate email blast you should by now have seen the announcement for the Spring Wine and Dine Event being held on Saturday April 16, 2016. The menu is creative and promises to be of the high standards we have been accustomed to at this venue.

Further to this, each course will be paired with wines that compliment each course. The wines will be upgraded this year with some help from your Board of Directors and for a different twist this year we will have live music! For those that would like to enjoy Ottawa downtown after the event we have a an agreement with ARC The Hotel to provide us a very attractive rate. Taking all of this into account, I’m sure that you’ll agree that besides awesome food and wine the event offers exceptional value. Hoping to raise a glass with you there to celebrate this years recipient of the Wine Person of the Year!

In an effort to provide more choices, I’m hoping that you’re noticing, based on your input, that we are offering a greater selection of wine, spirit and beer events and are running them at times other than our usual Thursday night. We will continue to accommodate the suggestions of our members. Keep an eye out as there is more to come.

In an effort to keep you on top of other local interesting wine events don’t forget these two:

  • Taste Ontario – This event is back in Ottawa on March 30, 2016, at the Chateau Laurier
  • California Wine Show – Our California friends make their annual stop at the Westin Hotel on Friday April 8, 2016.

One last thought: Watch for our call for volunteers for the Spring wine event. Here’s hoping all the snow will be gone by then and our thoughts will more focused on wines to enjoy on the patio as we Bar-B-Q with friends and family – and if this past weekend is any indication, it might come to pass! We look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!
